Wheat Rescue helps breakdown gluten exposure when eating at restaurants, social events, traveling, or when eating at home when roommates or other family members are not also following a gluten-free lifestyle.
Fungal Protease: Proteases break apart peptide bonds in proteins, often in a very specific way. They are split between endopeptidases and exopeptidases based on the types of peptide bonds they break.
Acid Stable Protease: Proteases must be able to survive the harsh acidic environment of the stomach. The acid stable protease in Wheat Rescue may help degrade gluten up to 60x faster than other types of protease.
Peptidase: Proteases break protein into smaller peptide chains. Gluten is broken down by proteases into the peptides glutenin and gliadin which can be associated with their own immune response by the body. Peptidase works to break down these peptides even further.
Tolerase: A trademarked endoprotease that aids gluten digestion in the stomach so it is completely broken down before entry to the small intestine.
Lipase: Lipases are produced by the pancreas and help break down dietary fat. Pancreatic insufficiency is common in gluten-sensitive individuals and is associated with its own issues that may offset benefits of a GF diet.
Betaine HCl: Hydrochloric acid is a component of stomach secretions responsible for digesting proteins. Strong stomach acid is important for protecting the body from potentially harmful invaders - including partially-digested proteins such as gluten. Low stomach acid or hypochlorhydria is common in food-sensitive individuals. Betaine HCl supports acidification of gastric secretions, and as such helps support normal function of the small intestine and microbiome*.
Bacillus Subtilis HU58: Known to produce at least twelve flora-balancing compounds, and helps support immunity, inflammation, and Short-Chain Fatty Acid production such as butyrate.
Bacillus Coagulans SC-208: Uniquely features properties of both Lactobacillus and Bacillus. Supports L-Lactate production which supports immunity and gut defense*. Supports digestion and assimilation of nutrients*, supports balance of normal flora* and SCFA production such as butyrate.
- Saccharomyces boulardii DVBPG 6763: Probiotic fungus / yeast that is resistant to stomach acid supports normal yeast balance* and B-vitamin production*. Supports immunity and gut health*
Recommended Wheat Rescue Intake Instructions:
Take 1 capsule right before eating. Wheat rescue is not a substitute for a gluten-free diet, but can help maintain a gluten-free lifestyle for unavoidable cross-contamination of gluten-free foods during social events, eating out, or while traveling.
Why Take Gluten Rescue by Dr. Tom O'Bryan and Microbiome Labs?
With the significant advances in diagnosing wheat-related disorders, our understanding of the immune reactions to the proteins found in wheat, rye, and barley has been rapidly growing.
- In a 2017 study published in the Journal of American Medical Association (JAMA), researchers reported that gliadin (protein component of gluten) can cause an immediate and transient increase in gut permeability.
This process takes place in ALL individuals who ingest gluten - not just the people with diagnosed celiac disease.
- 2015 Nutrients article concluded that there was a marked increase in intestinal permeability after gliadin exposure that occurred in ALL individuals.
- A study published in 2006 in the Scandinavian Journal of Gastroenterology reported that gliadin activates zonulin signaling, which results in an immediate reduction of intestinal barrier function.
All of this can be solved with a gluten-free diet, right? Not exactly!
- Earlier this year, a study in the Journal of Gastroenterology showed that there are measurable amounts of gluten present in many gluten-free foods.
The study looked at over 5,000 gluten-free (GF) foods and found that gluten was present in 32% of GF-labeled foods. Interestingly, gluten-free pizzas and pastas were the most common culprits with over 50% of these foods containing measurable amounts of gluten.
So it appears that gluten-free foods aren't exactly safe from gluten contamination, but even if you were able to completely avoid gluten, a gluten-free diet cannot repair intestinal damage.
Gluten has become a serious threat to our well-being and longevity. Studies show that a gluten-free diet is not enough to repair intestinal damage from inflammatory foods and other lifestyle factors.
This means that even if you do your best to diligently avoid gluten, you could still be subjected to gluten contamination if you consume packaged gluten-free foods. Thankfully, we’re not all doomed!
Take a gluten-digesting supplement like Wheat Rescue directly before eating to support the breakdown of wheat-contaminated foods.
