Symptoms of indigestion are often mistaken for excessive acid. The true culprit is likely to be insufficient levels of hydrochloric acid (HCl). The resulting reduction in stomach acidity can lead to impaired protein digestion and mineral breakdown over time, as well as changes in the gut flora.
Maintaining adequate levels of HCl is fundamental to healthy protein digestion, nutrient availability, and maintenance of beneficial gastric flora.
Pepsin is activated by good acidity in the gut to start chopping down proteins in the early stage of digestion. If this step is compromised, problems may occur throughout the rest of the GI tract.
Gastric juices must be acidic for the enzyme to function. Betaine HCl supports that activity, and pepsin jumpstart the process.
When comparing "pepsin" doses. The lower the number the more potent. In this case, a 1:3000 is MORE potent than a 1:10,000, etc. You will find our pepsin to be more potent and plentiful than similar formulas on the market and can account for price differences.
