Low stomach acid or "hypochlorhydria" is one of the most common functional deficiencies in men and women.

High stress, frequent use of acid-blockers, and deficiencies in enzyme-building minerals like magnesium and zinc will lead to insufficient production of stomach acid and subsequent release of digestive enzymes.

Betaine HCl helps support the acidification of the stomach which is necessary for the activation of pepsin. Pepsin is responsible for much of protein digestion. Normal stomach acid is also essential for the absorption of a number of minerals including magnesium and zinc.

Magnesium and Zinc are essential cofactors in the creation of stomach acid. Magnesium is also readily lost in times of stress creating a vicious cycle of stress, low stomach acid, and poor nutrient digestion.

Take 1-3 capsules 10 minutes prior to meals to support digestion. If warming occurs, back down on capsule intake.

Some protocols recommend increasing intake until one feels a warming feeling in the stomach and then back down 1 capsule for future meals. As digestive balance improves, it will take fewer capsules to trigger the warming sensation. Check with your health professional on what's right for you.

Take 1-3 capsules, 1-2 times per day based on need, preferably between meals. The Linus Pauling Institute recommends 350mg/day of supplemental magnesium (3 capsules = 360mg). Higher intakes may be necessary if taking medications that deplete magnesium, with stress, and other intake needs.

Zinc Copper Balance:

Take 1-2 capsules per day, preferably away from meals, and opposite magnesium intake.
