What is Cal/Mag Plus with Vitamin D and K-2 M7?
Cal/Mag Plus with Vitamin D and K-2 M7 is designed to support bone health, cardiovascular health, nerve signaling, and muscle function. Calcium is provided in its highly bioavailable citrate/malate form and magnesium is provided as magnesium citrate/aspartate. Vitamins D-3 and K-2 have been included to maximize the efficiency of calcium absorption and utilization.
Cal/Mag Plus with Vitamin D and K-2 M7 does not contain the minerals zinc, potassium, and boron found in some of our other Cal/Mag formulas, and so is designed to be taken alongside a multivitamin/mineral that supplies these essentials.
How does Cal/Mag Plus with Vitamin D and K-2 M7 Work?
Calcium is required for the critical metabolic functions of vascular contraction and vasodilation, muscle function, nerve transmission, intracellular signaling, and hormonal secretion. Calcium is also necessary for maintaining bone strength (as measured by bone mineral density; BMD). When calcium intake is inadequate, the body starts to break down existing bone to maintain calcium levels in the blood. Osteoporosis occurs when bone is being broken down at a faster rate than it is rebuilt, resulting in decreased BMD.
Magnesium is involved in over 300 biochemical reactions in the body, including protein synthesis, muscle and nerve function, blood glucose control, and blood pressure regulation. It contributes to the maintenance of a normal heartbeat and can help to reduce your risk of cardiovascular disease. Magnesium is essential for the absorption of calcium, formation of new bone, and impacts the activity of parathyroid hormone (a regulator of calcium homeostasis). Sixty percent of the body’s magnesium is stored in bone. Magnesium deficiency can result in reduced BMD as bone will also be broken down to release stored magnesium for other biological functions.
Vitamin D-3 stimulates the absorption of calcium from the gut. Although vitamin D can be made in the body naturally in response to sunlight, modern indoor lifestyles and awareness of the sun’s effects on skin health have led to low serum vitamin D levels becoming quite common. Vitamin D status is also related to BMD, and supplementation can prevent some bone turnover.
Vitamin K-2 M7 works synergistically with vitamin D to stimulate production and activation of osteocalcin, a protein involved in bone mineralization. Osteocalcin is essential for pulling calcium out of the blood and into bone, preventing arterial calcification. Low-dose vitamin K2 M7 supplementation has been shown to decrease bone loss and increase bone strength in postmenopausal women.

Chelating agents include: citric acid (corn fermentation), malic acid and aspartic acid (synthetic). Cellulose for capsules is derived from softwood tree pulp. All ingredients are non-GMO.
