Key Benefits
Key Features
What is Helicobacter Pylori?
GI tract. It thrives in the acidic lining of the stomach. It's estimated that up to half of the world's population has H. pylori in their GI systems. This bacterium spreads through direct contact with people or pets, as well as through saliva, feces, or contaminated food and water.
The relationship between humans and H. pylori is complex. It can either coexist without causing harm or sometimes live in a beneficial way with its host.
H. pylori colonizes the duodenum and stomach lining, producing urease, an enzyme that changes urea into ammonia. This ammonia neutralizes stomach acid, creating a more favorable environment for H. pylori to survive. Yet, when H. pylori is overgrown, this buffering effect lowers the positive effects of stomach acid in its host - leading to digestive problems. H. pylori than can degrade the lining, leading to gastric irritation and discomfort - even though acidity may be suboptimal.
